After picking my mother up from a very normal doctors appointment today it seemed as if the thought of cancer was all around me. Although her procedure was fine and showed no signs of cancer or even any benin discrepancies at all, there was a lot of talk/thoughts about the what if. Later, in a contemporary photography class we watched a series of photographs that the artist, Pedro Meyer, narrated his thoughts and feelings on the series. This series was about his parents and his father getting diagnosed with cancer and being told he had only 4-6 weeks left to live. It made me realize how hard watching your parents go through something like that would be and see how brave this photographer is. I didn’t realize how great of an affect this whole situation had on me. I’m thankful that today is not the day I have to come to terms with that fact.
In regards to being thankful (and I suppose in light of the upcoming holiday it’s fitting) I wanted to share a list of the things I’m thankful for:
- Healthy family to spend time with.
- The friends I have.
- Nearing graduation.
- The cooling weather.
- Planning trips.
- My own health.
- My bed.
